He’s Never Silent …

During a time of rain and dreariness, I was telling the Lord that the early spring and late fall were colorless and drab - grays, browns, dull yellows and greens. I told Him how I much preferred the brilliant colors of summer!

A silent whisper slowly grew in my heart ... thoughts without words, meanings without sounds ... and I realized that, since all good things come from God, that it was Him ... whispering silently, gently, helping me to understand ...

We are like the seasons.

The summer can be compared to a soul which is happy and at peace, nestled in the arms of God. Its colors are vibrant, warm ... alive!

Fall ... is well named. Our spirits become like fall when we ourselves fall from Grace. Our luxurious colors, our warmth, our joy ... begin to cool, become dull. Where once there were bright blues, and greens, and reds ... there is now nothing but brown and gray, cold ... damp ... misery. We are drawing away from the Source of Light, warmth, love ...

Winter. A long, cold agony which has lost all warmth, and all color. White stillness, shades of gray ... they frost our hearts and our souls! There seems to be no love, no tenderness - no warming from His Care. Our ice prevents His healing Hands from caressing our souls, which have become frozen and hard.

Spring ... our souls are beginning to return to the Lord's love. Early spring is much like late fall - bleak, cold, colorless. Then Christ's love begins to seep back in through the cracks in the icy husk surrounding our hearts, and little by little, the ice melts, the greys and browns give way to the bright greens, reds, yellows ... ! And through His care, if we continue to allow Him to work on our frozen beings, He draws us back into the summer of our relationship with Him.

God is never silent. We only need to remember that He speaks to us in the silence of our hearts ... and that all good things come from Him. Do you see a lesson forming in your heart, where before there was nothing but an empty awareness? Listen with your whole being! If the lesson draws you to God, to love, to caring, it came from Him. He is the Spark behind all good thoughts and desires. He patiently waits for us to hear His silent Voice, never still, never absent.

Remember - in all of the seasons of your life, you never ever need to feel alone ...
